Step 6. Submitting Your Site to Search Engines

If you want people to be able to find your site using a search engine, you need to let the search engines know you exist. Once the search engine becomes aware of your site, it will "crawl" your pages, reading them and analyzing the text. Then people may be able to find you.

To submit your site to a search engine, you find the appropriate page on the search engine site and type in your URL (http:/www.your-domain-name-here.com) in the box, the press "submit."

There are a variety of search engine submission services that will do this for you. You fill in one form and they get your site listed for you automatically on all the major search engines, if all goes well. Since this is something that you can do yourself for free, I wouldn't pay very much for this if I were you. But it's probably worth a few bucks.

The biggest search engines are Google and Yahoo. You can submit to Google here, and to Yahoo here.

It might take weeks for the search engines to get around to you. They have millions of sites to look at. Once they've seen you once, they'll come back from time to time, so your updated content will get noticed eventually.

That's all I have to say about Web site creation right now. Have fun!
